Reminders

Why didn't I get a reminder?

Check these in order:

  1. Notifications are allowed. On iPhone, go to Settings › Notifications › BirthKeeper. On Android, go to Settings › Apps › BirthKeeper › Notifications.
  2. The reminder is turned on for that person. Open them in BirthKeeper and check which reminders are selected.
  3. Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't hiding notifications from BirthKeeper.
  4. Your phone was online around the time of the reminder. Reminders are delivered over the internet.

Reminders arrive in the morning, local time. If you've travelled, open the app once so it picks up your new time zone.

When are reminders sent?

You can choose a reminder 30, 14 or 7 days before, and one on the day itself, separately for each person. They arrive in the morning in your local time.

Your data

Do I need an account?

No. BirthKeeper works without sign-up. Your data belongs to this installation of the app, which is why it's worth exporting a copy now and then (see below).

How do I move my data to a new phone?
  1. On your old phone, open BirthKeeper › Settings › Your data › Export my data, and save the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone (Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive or email).
  2. Install BirthKeeper on the new phone.
  3. Open Settings › Your data › Import data and choose the file.

Please export before deleting the app. Without an account, deleting and reinstalling BirthKeeper starts fresh, and earlier data can't be recovered.

How do I delete my data?

Open Settings › Your data › Delete all data. This permanently erases everything from the app and from our servers. It can't be undone, so export a copy first if you might want it later.

Is my data private?

The details of the people you add are encrypted on your phone before they're stored. There are no ads and no tracking.

Gift ideas use AI. When you ask for ideas, BirthKeeper sends that person's first name, age, relation, gender, interests, budget, note, past gifts and saved ideas to our AI provider, OpenAI. Your ID and their last name and birth date aren't sent. This only happens when you ask, and the app asks for your consent first.

How do I get better gift suggestions?

Add the person's hobbies, a budget and a short note. The more BirthKeeper knows, the better the ideas fit. Save the ones you like, and mark a gift as given to keep it in their gift history, so future suggestions won't repeat it.
